K-League 18R Preview – Saturday Fixtures

So after a midweek break to allow Son Heung Min to bring Bayer Leverkusen to Korea to face FC Seoul we are back to K-League business this weekend. There was a big crowd at the World Cup Stadium for the 7pm kick-off which kind of makes you wonder how under 8,000 made it for the match against Sangju the previous Wednesday. Leverkusen won the friendly 2-0 but the biggest news of the week was when it was revealed that Son was in fact dating none other than Minah from Girl’s Day, not bad considering he lives in Germany and she lives under lock and guard by her management group. Anyways on to the real stuff!

There are three matches played on Saturday. First up is…

Sangju v Seongnam

This game pits 9th v 8th. Both teams have 17pts with Seongnam having the slightly better goal difference of -3. Sangju lost their last game 2-1 away to Seoul after taking the lead on the hour mark. That game was probably more notable for the rainy conditions and some ‘famous’ soldier in the stands  than anything on the pitch. Sangju, as so many times this season, saw a lead slip through poor defending. Seongnam won their last game 1-0 at home against Gyeongnam. Their form has been really patchy this season and I think that will probably continue over the season. This one could be a good game and the presence of @kingkenny1967 back in the stands might be the good omen Seongnam need to win.

Prediction 1-1

Incheon BadgeUlsan Badge

Incheon v Ulsan

Incheon will be hoping to end the run of bad results they’ve had this season as 12th takes on 6th. I’ve seen Incheon a few times this season both home and away and they seem to be really struggling with self-belief, even if they take the lead they don’t look remotely confident of holding it (well except against Seoul in their only league victory). Ulsan, challengers last season, are also suffering indifferent form which is what makes this match unpredictable. On paper and league position Ulsan should win it easily but Incheon are due some luck and a victory sometime soon and this could just be that time.

Prediction 1-0

Busan Badge Jeju Badge

Busan v Jeju

The 19:30 kick-off sees Busan take on Jeju at home. Busan haven’t won in the league since they defeated Seongnam away back in April. They are still in the cup though and will be hoping to use that to spur themselves onto some kind of league form. Jeju sit third on goal difference from Jeonnam. They are having a pretty good season and sit only 4 points adrift of Pohang and 2 from Jeonbuk. They will be hoping to get a good result to put the pressure on the front two who don’t play until the Sunday. You would have to imagine that Jeju will have too much for Busan in this one.

Prediction 0-2

Sunday fixtures to follow…..
