Kleague – 22R Preview – Saturday Fixtures

There were no Kleague Classic matches midweek due to the ACL Quarter-Finals, with Pohang and Seoul serving up a pretty entertaining 0-0 draw. There are three matches this Saturday. First up we have

Gyeongnam v Pohang

Gyeongnam got their first win in a while last week away to Sangju, a resounding 3-1 victory at that. They will no doubt have had a much needed confidence boost from that. The fact that Incheon suffered a demoralising defeat at the hands of FC Seoul will have also given them some extra impetus. Pohang have had a couple of bad results in the last five or so matches, none more so than the 2-0 defeat at home to league leaders Jeonbuk. They will want to get the defence of their title back on track as soon as possible and will probably view bottom placed Gyeongnam as good a place as any to do so.

Prediction 0-2

Jeonbuk v Seoul

Jeonbuk are sitting pretty at the top of the table and look like they might remain there a while. The away victory at The Steelyard last weekend could prove to be the foundations for claiming the title this year. With top scorer Lee Dong Gook and the skillfull Brazilian Kaio they always like a team capable of scoring. Seoul, however look like they may be getting their act together. A 5-1 drubbing of Incheon followed by the 0-0 away draw in the ACL Quarter- Final and they should be heading into this one with their chests puffed out. The last time these two teams met was the first game after the World Cup break and they served up a cracking 2-2 draw, there should be goals in this one too.

Prediction 2-2

Ulsan v Sangju

Ulsan take on Sangju in the 19:30 kick-off. Ulsan sit in 6th place with Sangju 9pts behind them in 8th. Both teams have only managed 2 league victories in their last 5. Both Ulsan’s victories have come in ‘must win’ matches over the teams closest to them in the table, namely Jeonnam and FC Seoul. With Seoul still breathing down their necks they will need to start racking up points consistently if they want to avoid dropping into the relegation group. Sangju’s defence is the worst in the league and they really do look incapable of keeping a clean sheet most games. They sit only 3 points above bottom placed Gyeongnam and with the table so tight at the bottom every game becomes a ‘cup final’.

Prediction 1-1
