2018 K-League Two – Match Day 2 Previews

The opening round of the K-League Two season passed without too many surprises among it’s ranks as perhaps only Bucheon raised eyebrows with their away victory down at Daejeon World Cup Stadium. Last season was one to forget for the Citizen team from Daejeon and they looked to have recruited well during the close season in order to push for promotion in 2018. They boast the largest squad in the K-league but after last weekend it would seem as if last year’s cobwebs may need a little more dusting yet. There was a share of the spoils in Busan as Seongnam battled against 10 men to earn a point. Suwon won at home against a shot-shy E-Land and The Police team showed their class against Ansan as Ku Mu Yeol grabbed the only goal of the game.

Many a pundit and fan alike have tipped Asan and Suwon to both be challenging for the title this year, this weekend might just give us an early glimpse of which team really has the title winning mentality.

2018 K-League Two ~ Match Day 2 – ‘Match of the Day’

Asan Mugunghwa vs Suwon FC

Suwon were rather busy during the close season as they completely dismantled and rebuilt their squad in a manner that the A-Team would have been proud. They brought in Bruno (Alex), Alex and Matheus to bolster their attacking options and then added the predatory instincts of Kim Dong Chan to top it all off. It was Kim (pictured right) that scored the solitary goal in their opening home match against E-Land as he picked up a pass into the box from Matheus before slotting the ball past ‘Glory’ in the E-Land goals. He had already had the ball in the net prior to this but it had been chopped off for offside and he was a thorn in the visitors side much of the game before eventually running out of steam. He seemed to be playing the ‘number 10’ role behind the main strikers and in this supporting role if Suwon can create him chances he will score a barrowload for them.

Asan made it to the playoffs last year, defeating Seongnam at home before losing out to Busan away. They seem to be the preferred team of choice for players doing their military service this year and can boast Ko Mu Yeol, Ju Se Jong and Hwang In Beom (pictured left) among their winter additions. It is the later of those three names that is generating the most interest as many thought the ex-Daejeon playmaker would be heading overseas this year. He was virtually ‘ever-present’ for Daejeon the last two years and will almost certainly cement his place in this Asan team before long.  He is a player of undoubted talent and will no doubt become the focal point of most things positive for the Police as the 2018 season unfolds.

The teams have met a total of seventeen times down the years with Asan having a hugely impressive record of eleven wins and only five defeats. They won all four battles between the two last year conceding only a single goal along the way. Han Eui Gwon was the scourge of Suwon last year as he scored in the last two clashes and could be another player to watch come this weekend. Having watched Suwon live last weekend they look a disjointed unit at the minute with much of their focus on attacking and it does seem like they could be more than vulnerable at the back to teams with pace.

Prediction : Home Win : Asan 2 Suwon 1
