One Out, One In For Seongnam As A Legend Leaves!

Seongnam FC, on Wednesday, finally announced the news that most fans had been bracing themselves for as National Team defender Yun Young-sun hung up his Number 20 jersey for the last time to make the move South to Ulsan Hyundai FC and the chance to play in the Asian Champions League (ACL) again. In truth it’s probably a moment that most of the Seongnam faithful thought would’ve happened straight after he returned from military service earlier in the 2018 season, but, true to the man himself, he stayed to help The Magpies clinch promotion back to the K-League One.

Something of a rarity in football these days Yun was looking like being a ‘one club man’ having only really played for Seongnam. He join the club in the draft of 2010 from Dankook University and made over 200 career appearances . He would go on to win the ACL in 2010 and two FA Cups in 2011 and 2014 before also helping Korea lift the 2017 East Asian Cup last year. He formed a formidable partnership with Lim Chai-min but they were unfortunately unable to replicate the same almost telepathic links while serving for Sangju Sangmu in 2017~2018. He is definitely leaving Seongnam fans with only positive wishes and will seek to cement a place in Ulsan’s back line sooner rather than later.

It’s not all bad news for Seongnam fans though as Lee Chang-yong makes the journey North from Ulsan after completing his military service with Asan Mugunghwa last season. Able to play in either defence or midfield he is the kind of versatile player that Nam Ki-il seems to like in his teams. He brings with him the experience of playing with Gangwon, Ulsan and the aforementioned Asan and it will be interesting to see exactly where Nam deploys him next year.
